ColorZen's story

Founded in 2012, ColorZen is revolutionising the textile dyeing industry using its patented treatment of raw cotton fibre so that it dyes more quickly, with less water, energy, and chemicals. ColorZen entered the Fashion for Good Scaling Programme in early 2017.

Michael Harari, ColorZen CEO

"Our solution will help tackle a range of critical environmental problems: pollution of our rivers and oceans, consumption of fossil fuels, and the use and discharge of toxic chemicals.

But we have faced two main challenges to scaling our solution. The first is that there is an established way of doing things, which has been in play for many years. Trying to change the status quo is difficult, no matter how beneficial a new technology may be to the supply chain. The second is that we must work with a variety of stakeholders in the broader supply chain to ‘pull through’ ColorZen technology from raw cotton to the end product.

Setting up those global production pathways has been one of our biggest achievements this past year. And it's where Fashion for Good has really helped accelerate our growth. Fashion for Good brings innovators and supply chain partners together. It means we're able to offer our solution to as many brands and mills as possible. Fashion for Good is also helping drive brands to place orders for ColorZen garments. Those orders create demand for ColorZen cotton through the dozens of supply chain partners that we’re now working with.

At ColorZen, we're looking forward to a more sustainable future for fashion and textiles. And we're excited to be providing a turnkey environmentally friendly solution for cotton dyeing, so that brands can design beautiful fashion, mills can produce sustainable garments and consumers can love what they wear.”
